Bike Line invited all Harley enthusiasts to come visit us at our Open House Saturday 27th of April. The weather was at its best to honor the day and it was almost 400 bikes on site, ranging from funky to stylish custom building designers. Many people took the opportunity to meet with vendors and talked bikes in the nice weather. Besides offerings from Bike Line and its suppliers were HDCS, HOG, Vulcan Riders, Yamaha Custom Club and Victory Club here to answer questions. Danne and HDCS had a sweaty day of delivering 500 grilled sausages to hungry visitors. Many visitors took the opportunity to test drive a bike from MC Hall and ProBike in Helsingborg.

We had our annual bike exhibition at the courtyard and this year, the first prize went to Ron Molins fine HD. He won a gift certificate, value 2000 sek - from Bike Line. Second prize went to Jens "Jensa" Nilsson with his custom Voyager who received a gift, value 1500 sek - from Avon. Third Place went to Lars Klint Hager who received a gift from MC Hall. value 750 sek. All three also received annual subscriptions from MCM and BigTwin and a pair Velodrome sun glasses.

There were a couple of special prizes where H DCS choice was presented by Dan and went to Andreas Linder and his fine Heritage Classic. Bike Line's choice was won by Kenneth Lovén who had arrived with his XV 1100 Virago. The price for the longest distance was won by Mats and his cool desert V-Rod. Their journey directly from the Sahara Desert to Bike Line got rewarded with some new oil and a gift certificate from Auto Sport & Mc.

Bikers Weekend

Open House

First weekend in May it was time for the annual Open House at Bike Line. Malmö showed itself from its best side and offered sunny sping weather. Bike enthusiasts came together to talk, look at bikes and breathe bike. You could find a wide variety of Bikes. From renovated originals to the most amazing and crazy custom builds.

Nowadays you can see more and more cool buildings based on Japanese models. The large Café Racer trend was noticed more this year, both in the parking lot and at the exhibition. Bike Line has taken note of this trend in the shop.

As usual, we had many exhibitors onsite to showcase everything from cleansers to tires and exhaust systems. The exhibitors seemed to be busy all day with curious visitors and received many questions from interested customers. In today's e-commerce society this becomes more and more important to get the opportunity and see and touch the goods before you buy them. Suppliers also get an excellent opportunity for feedback from their customers about what´s good and whats not.

As for the music this day we had the danish musician J-tex visiting. It has become something of a tradition at Bike Line's Open House. He accompanies HDCS´s BBQ with heavy blues tones in a brilliant way. HDCS grilled and delivered 550 sausages to all hungry motorcycle enthusiasts. As usual, the sausage is for free but in recent years there has been a box where you could put in a little something in order to contribute to charity. This time the money went the foundation My big day. We gathered 5589 sek! Bikers may be big, tough and tattooed but they have a heart that beats for our children. Good work!

The annual bike exhibition this year attracted 26 bikes. Everything from Cafe Racers to old school custom builds. The exhibition is getting bigger and better every year with higher class and finish. Winner of this years exhibition was Dennis Weberg with his Flat foot bobber. A really neat and stripped construction. Dennis is only 23 years old and the guess is that we will be seeing a lot more of him in the future. Dennis won a gift certificate, value 2000 sek - at Bike Line. On second place came Peter Persson with his Rocker -08 and he won a gift voucher on the Avon Tyres, value 1500 sek. The third place went to Andreas Linder and his stylish Heritage and he was rewarded with a kit from Ultra Glozz. There was also a prize for the longest distance that went to Jens Nilsson, who had driven 12 swedish miles to get to the Open House. His prize was oil from Parts Europe. All prize winners also received a one-year subscription of MCM and sun glasses from Velodrome.

Charity Run

The day after our Open House the bike enthusiast were gathered once again at Handelsbodens parking lot for Malmoe Chapter's annual Charity Run. 251 people contributed in the run and it managed to collect impressive 54,104 sek to BRIS. It was fun to see all Malmoe Chapter officials' dedication and hard work. Petra is Malmoe Chapters Activity Officer and she did a fantastic job with the event. She baked waffles, counted collected money or on the run to fix something else. For those who missed it this year, be sure not to miss the 2015 Charity Run where you can make a difference for the people in need.

The run finished at Bike Line's parking lot where we served waffles, also the award ceremony was held here. The winner in this years run was Irene Nilsson. Biggest participating club became YCCS with 25 participants.

No registration numbers left?

The Transport Agency announces that the combination of Swedish registration numbers are about to run out. Soon, all the letters and numbers used in any combination will run out. Within a few years, the Transport Agency have to find an alternative solution.

There are still two letters that are not used as the first character, Y and Z. In 2014, Y becomes the first letter in the combination. But after that there are only Z left. Å, Ä and Ö are not used because they can be confused with other letters. Neither I, V and Q are used on any plates. If not a solution comes, it may take about 5 years before the registration numbers is out. Depending on the number of new vehicles registered in Sweden in the coming years.

This problem is now being investigated by the Transport Agency. They want to have time to find new alternatives before it becomes acute.

Smaller Motorcycle Signs

The two-line plate for motorcycle and moped class I will be somewhat smaller in the new version. Discussions with the MC industry and the abolition of the control markers has allowed the reduction. The new measure will be 170 x 150 mm .

Within the next few weeks we will have a sign holder for sale that fits the new signs. The article number of theese signs will be 79-0128.

Loud and Legal

The Dutch company Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde has developed an electronically adjustable exhaust system that allows the driver to choose between a stock Harley-Davidson sound,  and the world famous Harley-Davidson (louder) Rumble.

The muffler contains an electronically adjustable valve. When the valve is closed,  the motorcycle produces about 85 dB and gives the same effect as the original muffler. When you open the valve you not only gain about 15 % more  horsepower, but you also get up to 130 dB of deep thundering sound. But the regulation of noise is not just a result of either blocking or not blocking the emission of exhaust fumes. When the valve is closed, exhaust gas is diverted through a more restricted passage within the muffler. When the valve is open , the gases straight through the open muffler and results in deeper and higher sound. You simply two different silencer in a single exhaust.

The  internals of all units are 100% stainless steel. Only the highest quality materials available together with the best workmanship are used in these products.

If you are concerned about the risk of increased emissions there is a catalyst additives to purchase . There are also variations of end- caps are available for trade.

We will soon have a bike with one of Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde's exhaust system mounted in our store.

We are authorized by Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde to mount these exhaust systems. If you do the installation at an authorized workshop, you get a two year warranty. In the link below you can see the prices for different systems. These prices dos not inclued installation cost. Installation cost is around 1500 SEK depending on the model. Photoshoot with Bike Line

We were in need of some new pictures to our website, newsletters and other campaigns so we gathered a bunch of people and headed out for a drive.

Seven volunteers and their 70s bikes showed up this Saturday, 15th of June. We began this sunny day with breakfast at Bike Line.

We had a beautiful drive mapped out for us. Häckeberga Slott, Kumlatofta, Sjöbo ski slope, Öveds Kloster och Harlösa BP Retro Gas Station.

We ended up with hundreds and hundreds of pictures! We picked out and edited about hundred of these.

You can also find some behind the scenes pictures here.

It is not always easy when it comes to moving subjects and you have to be creative and find the right angles.

DynoJet

The purpose of DynoJet

A DynoJet measures the power, torque and ratio between air and fuel.

It ´s not everyone who comes in and make a measurement that needs to make an adjustment. But those who need an adjustment after the measurement do it.

After the measurement, the customer receives a thorough review of how it went. The customer may inspect graphs and charts to see exactly at what speed and at what number of revolutions there need to be done adjustments.

Most of today's new factory-made bikes are fitted with an oxygen sensor in the exhaust pipe. Lambda sensors are provided to read the fuel / air landing so that the module can correct the mixture to the desired value.

Optimal combustion has a value of 14.7 - 1. This value applies for consistent driving. The value of acceleration should be as close to 13.5 - 1 as possible in order to have a good balance between performance and economy.

On older bikes with carburetors you have to changed nozzles manually. On modern bikes with electronic fuel injection the adjustment will be done electronically by using a computer software.

This software varies depending on whether you are driving a HD or a bike of another brand.
If you run a HD we use a computer program called Super Tuner, which is a development of its predecessor, Race Tuner, which is HD's own program, or Power Commander.
Are you driving any other bike we make adjustments, preferably with the Power Commander.

What is a Power Commander?

Almost any bike can be measured, provided it does not exceed 186 miles/h. If  it´s a bike that has a higher top speed than that, it must be assessed on a lower gear.
It requires no additional equipment on the bike too do the measurement itself, but if it needs an adjusting, it´s necessary to mount a Power Commander or similar product on the bike.

A Power Commander is a small box that you connect to the existing ignition system and allows you to adjust the injection on your bike. A well-adjusted Power Commander gives your bike more power and better turn where you want it.

The Power Commander itself makes no difference, it is only when you take the bike up on the brake bench and make the measurement that you can adjust the injection value at all speeds and different throttle. With the adjustment via the Power Commander, you get a precise fuel curve. This provides better engine performance, smoother power curve and in 90% of the cases, more effect on your bike.

Our DynoJet - Bike Line

You find our DynoJet bench in a specially equipped room. It needs both cooling and exhaust extraction when we make the measurements. The room must be equipped with proper ventilation. The balance between the supply air ventilation and exhaust ventilation must be nearly perfect to provide over- or underpressure in the room. These fans have the capacity to manage the ventilation in a conference room for 700 people.

To make the measurements, you must have training in how to use the brake bench and how the computer programs work. At Bike Line, we have skilled staff who have received training in the brake bench, Power Commander / Power Vision (PowerVision is just like the Power Commander an injection module) at MotoSpeed in Västerås, training on the Race Tuner / Super Tuner (computer) at Pro Bike in Täby as well as S & S VFI system at S & S in LaCrosse. (S & S VFI is a Injection Module that you mount instead of the original module, which you can then adjust with a computer program. It is made by an American company called S & S).

If you would like us to make a measurement, ask for price or have other questions, feel free to contact us!

Dragracing with Ulf Ögge

Ulf Ögge jokes about that he´s "the world's fastest photographer" but that´s not the reason we write about him here. No, Ulf Ögge is not only a photographer and the owner of the store Mattssons Photo in Lund, he´s europe's number one in Drag Racing.

Ulf Ögge lives with his wife and daughter in a village in southern Skåne. In his spare time, when he´s not working as a photographer and runs Mattsson's photo in Lund, he devotes himself to the motorcyclesport Drag Racing. Or, maybe we should say, when he´s not involved with Drag Racing, he works at Mattsson´s Photo?

Because when I ask Ögge if he's doing this full time, I get the answer:

- It depends on who you ask.

And when I ask him how many hours per week he spends on this, the answer is:

- Several.

At least I get the feeling that he spends a lot of time on this sport.

Ögge began Drag Racing in the late 90's. Today he runs for the club SRIF Malmö, Skåne racers nonprofit association.
He says he always had a great interest in motorcycles and racing.

For those of you who don´t know, this sport is about racing a straight run as fast as possible. The sport originated from the States. In Sweden the first race took place at the Scandinavian Raceway outside Anderstorp, 1968.
Ögge himself competes mostly in Finland and the States. With the time of 7:03 (Gainesville, USA), he was the first european to qualify for the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association).

Ögge competes in a class called Pro Stock Bike. In this class the bikes are heavily modified. It´s supposed to look like a regular bike but the trimming is completely free.

Ögge competes with a 2005 S & S / Buell NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle.

To my question about how  long the lifetime is for a racing bike Ögge responds that they are upgraded and maintained continuously. So if you just take good care of your bike, I guess they can keep up for a while.

The Team which, besides Ögge himself, consists of seven people, his daughter included, will stay the same for the coming year. No changes?

-No, these guys have been around for many years!

I´ve heard of a special bus and was asked by one of my colleagues if it would last another season. When I ask Ögge about this, he tells me that it´s the metal band Rammsteins old tour bus they drive when it's time to tour. The bus is now rebuilt and besides beds, tools, mechanic tents and other stuff there´s room for the racing bike.

And it will last another season?

  - Yes we use an excellent bus garage in Vellinge "George Bus & Truck Service" and you get egg sandwiches during service!!

I can´t promise you that all visitors will get egg sandwiches, maybe you have to be one of the Team or maybe you, as Ögge, have to have adrenaline rushes as an interest?

Pass me the salt, please!

Dreams!

-”What is life without dreams? Dreams need time to grow. Some dreams will only come true, "if you win the lottery".  Other dreams must come true, and as any long journey, it starts with the first step and this is were we are right now. We have both been on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah USA and have got "The salt fever””

Tom and John Jørgensen's dream was to compete at The Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, USA.

Bonneville Speedway is located east of Wendover society in western Utah. Many speed records have been made here. The speedway provides an ideal environment for car and motorcycle racing. It´s completely flat and has a naturally stable surface of salt. It was previously a salt lake which now evaporated completely and the track has been used for this kind of speed competitions since the beginning of the 1900s.

Several annual events are held at the track and give people the opportunity to see the cars and other vehicles that will do anything to set a record.

The Bonneville Salt Flats is a huge area and the race track is only a small part of this area. When you see these salt views it can be tempting to throw your self out there and start driving but the drivers are referred too the landscaped roads and paths. Getting stuck in the salt and get high towing tickets are not unusual.

The Salt flats got international attention in the 1930s when Utah driver Ab Jenkins lured British racer Sir Malcolm Campbell to compete for speed records on the salt surface.

Since the first speed records were made in 1914, hundreds of records been set and broken in a number of times by various car and motorcycle classes.

To compete here was Tom Jørgensen and his brother in law John Jørgensen's dream.

But to get their bikes to cope with this kind of competition they was in need for some renovations. In addition to sponsoring, Bike Line helped with the construction of the engine in Tom's motorcycle, a Harley Davidson "Knucklehead", 1350cc, from 1941.

2010 the dream became reality when Tom got invited to the danish Vincent Viking team.

- It was great to be a part of something as big as setting a world record, says Tom.

Johns motorcycle is a 103 cui S & S engine with Flathead power peaks. The bike is built for classic drag race and street race.

It´s whith that bike I'm going to run at the Salt Flats.

In 2012 they revisited Boneville and this time John also made reality of his dream.
